''Modern History of Taiwanese in 400 Years'' (台灣人四百年史), is a history book about Taiwan, written by Su Beng (史明, literally "History to be clarified") of the Taiwan independence movement. Su Beng felt many advocators of the Taiwan Independent Movement did not understand the history of Taiwan well, and spent three years writing a Japanese version of ''Modern History of Taiwanese in 400 Years'' in 1962. After another six years, he finished the Chinese version, and the English version was published in 1986. In 1999, he added an appendix for Chinese version. In the book, the author discusses the ruling characteristics of Kuomintang or KMT (國民黨, literally translated as "Chinese Nationalist Party") The book also analyses the basic structure of Taiwan's economy, to explain how different social classes in Taiwan were formed, and focuses on different eras of social, international position and trends.
